Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released its latest report which says that computers operating in almost all government officer of United States are vulnerable to cyberattacks from state-sponsored actors. If this issue goes unchecked, then it can spell a doom on the security and integrity of America in near future.
GAO has claimed in its report that all critical networks are riddled with security vulnerabilities and are open to attack. This includes infrastructure pertaining to US Financial Services, National Infrastructure, and Inter-Government Communications.
And in recent years, GAO is said to have made recommendations on 2,500 weaknesses to federal agencies. But the government has failed to address at least 450 of them till date.
Government Accountability Office report states that the number of cyber attacks and potential intrusions on federal officers like DHS, and US-CERT has been growing each year. The report says that just between 2006 and 2015, the number of reported security breaches grew from 5,503 to 77,183 which accounts for a 1,303 percent increase.
The risks include intrusions, espionage, and disruption of critical operations such as those supporting national defense and emergency services.
GAO hopes that the situation will improve in the new regime of 45th US President Donald Trump. Adding to it, officials from the Trump Tower have already confirmed in December last year that the new president is pretty serious on this issue and will issue directives pertaining to National Security soon. This includes directives related to cyber attacks taken up by some state-sponsored actors on the critical Infrastructure of United States.
After taking oath as a president, Mr. Trump made it official that he will do anything and everything to save the integrity of America and Americans.
Trump’s objective is crystal clear- ‘To make America a number one nation in future in all aspects”.
