Kaspersky Lab released a report in this week which said that the year 2016 witnessed over 8.5 million mobile security threats. The firm announced that it registered nearly 40 million attacks by malicious mobile software over the course of the year.
Geographically speaking, the nations with the highest number of attacks were US, UK, India, Indonesia, and China. And the hackers who launched most of such attacks are hailing from nations like China, Russia, and South Africa. And in the study made by Kaspersky, Desert Falcons happens to be the first Arabic speaking group seen conducting full-scale cyber espionage operations.
Out of all, Trojans topped the list of malware which infected Android Devices via vulnerabilities that are patched in newer mobile OS versions. This includes SMS Trojans, Banking Trojans, and ransomware Trojans capable of stealing or extorting money by holding bank data.
Researchers from Kaspersky Lab confirmed that Google Play remains a popular place for cyber criminals to find the business. But they added that the web services giant is doing its best to keep malware at bay from its popular Play Store.
The Russia-based security firm has also warned the mobile using community from hackers who are evolving the use of mobile banking Trojans in the world of mobile security. Kaspersky suggests that the intentions of cyber criminals could double up if the community of mobile users turns a blind eye towards their mobile usage security features.
