Internet Juggernaut Google has decided to offer cyber security related assistance to all countries which are about to host elections (ex. Germany and France). In its latest media briefing, Google made it official that it is going to offer assistance to election organizers and civic groups which are interested in defending their public interest related political activities against cyber attacks.
As the frequency of politically motivated online attacks has surged up in recent times, Google along with its sister company Jigsaw has decided to offer a free “Protect Your Election” package to all low budget organizations.
As a part of this package, individuals and groups will be offered a tech shield against all kind of malware attacks which includes distributed denial of service attacks. Jigsaw will also offer a password alert and two-step verification for an added protection on web and mobile accounts.
All news websites, human rights websites and election monitoring and information websites will be eligible to apply for DDoS Protection assistance from the tech giant. All candidates who are termed to be election probable’s will be eligible for a two password protection tools.
On an overall note, the protection suite will offer baseline protection to all political parties and government organizations which are holding elections. This will help in keeping political shenanigans at bay in the cyberspace.
So, organizations can defend themselves from high volume attacks and intruders who are mostly politically motivated by some state-sponsored actors to bring political and financial instability in the country.
The best example is the US elections 2016 which were highly influenced by Russia which eventually made the current 45Th US President Donald Trump win the election.
The project is funded by Google’s parent company Alphabet and Jigsaw will work in coordination its sister company Google.
Google has also announced that it has created some policies which could help eradicate fake news stories propagating on social media. This is to avoid any polarized political debates and to stop extremist groups using their networks to spread obnoxious comments on the election probable.
