Google has given an update about the mobile security measures which are being implemented in its latest Android 7.0 Nougat (N) release. And it stressed on the fact that the new version of the mobile operating system has the ability to protect N OS users against ransomware.
Detailing about it, in the latest blog update, Jason Woloz, the Senior Program Manager for Android Security outlined the measures in detail. One of those measures includes “Safety Blinders” which ensures that an android app cannot see what other apps are doing on the user’s device at the same time. This means that those which are notorious can’t see what other apps are doing and cannot inform their attacks to hackers based on info related to the activity.
Google has also updated the world on one of the highlighting features of Android 7.0 which tweaks the lock screen feature to such an extent that ransomware tools cannot penetrate beyond the safety feature by misusing a user’s permission settings to change the lock screen pin. This measure will prevent users from being locked out of their device by ransomware.
Also, Google’s Nougat (N) has the ability to protect users from nefarious services like Clickjacking. Click-jacking is a hacking theme employed by sophisticated hackers who trick the mobile phone users into granting apps permissions by obscuring authorization dialogs hidden behind other windows.
The web services giant also complemented other safeguards, such as Verify Apps, which Google describes as a security system that scrutinizes apps before they are installed and then frequently verifies more than 400 million devices as well as 6 billion apps per day.
Google’s latest Android N has an improved sandboxing feature which restricts information apps access and defending ability- a feature borrowed by the Linux Kernel.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10, Moto X, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X along with LG G5 are phones which are running on Nougat OS. Android Wear, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Sony Xperia Z4 tablet are also running on the said OS. Sony BRAVIA and Sharp AQUOS are smart TVs which run on Nougat.
