Teradata which offers database related products and services has made a new study in which it discovered that security concerns are deterring users from storing data on cloud platforms. But the survey also discloses good news by confirming that more than half of business critical data will reside on the cloud by 2019.
Therefore, the study clearly outlines the fact that though the businesses are ready to invest in cloud storage products and services in near time, concerns related to security and data breaches are deterring them from doing so.
Teradata survey on cloud security concerns figured out the following obstacles which were holding back users on using cloud storage platforms-
a.) The survey which included more than 1000 respondents from IT field says that cloud data adoption depends directly on the ratio of security breaches. If the number of breaches is more, the adoption becomes less and vice versa.
b.) A quarter of those who participated in the survey believes that cloud adoption will result in a lack of control, as the data resides on other’s premises- which is a myth.
c.) 40% of respondents say general security is at risk when data is moved to cloud.
Although, the above three points speak negatively on cloud storage adoption; 58% of respondents say that usage of the cloud will increase in next two years and half of them already admit that 40% of their organizational data is residing in the cloud from past 2 years.
Even legal data which until the date was kept on physical servers will now be moved to cloud servers- All thanks to the assurance given by the cloud service providers on security issue and due to the bouquet of benefits offered by the cloud providers.
Coming to the telecom sector, companies are making strong moves within the organization to move their digital assets to the cloud. This includes migration of data, IT infrastructure, and services to cloud platforms in order to cut down their operational costs.
Healthcare related companies are also showing a lot of interest in moving their customer data to secure platforms of the cloud as it offers high availability and flexibility to its employees to access it from anywhere and anytime.
On a final note, Teradata has come to a conclusion that by identifying the barriers within the business that hinder further adoption, the acceptance of cloud storage in corporate environments can be vastly improved. But the only thing is that the cloud providers should provide a reassurance that storing data on their platform is a safe and cost-effective way to store company info.
