Microsoft has finally bowed down to malware spreading hackers targeting Windows machines by issuing a highly unusual patch for its dead and extinct Windows XP users. The company which releases security updates to all its OS users twice a month (mostly on Tuesday) has turned up with a security fix for all older versions of Windows, including XP.
The Redmond-based software giant has also released a security bulletin on Tuesday urging all Windows admins to apply the March’17 security patch titled MS17-010 on the manual or automated note.
As May’17 witnessed the outbreak of WannaCry Ransomware targeting more than 200,000 machines working on Windows operating system (except Win10), Microsoft decided to update all those systems with the latest security fixes in order to prevent another global ransomware outbreak in near future.
Note- The fix only applies to those who weren’t affected by Wannacry.
As per our sources, in the last week of May’17 security experts from Microsoft analyzed all Windows OS vulnerabilities which could be exploited by hackers to launch cyber attacks in near future.
During their analysis, experts found almost 13 dreaded vulnerabilities which could pose an as high risk. And to keep all its users (including XP) isolated from all variants of future cyber attacks, Microsoft decided to issue security fixes to all Windows machines in this month. This includes PCs working on Windows Vista, XP, and Server 2003. And updates will automatically be available to Windows 10, Windows 8.21 and 7 users.
Thus, by offering security patches to all its users, Microsoft has once again proved that it’s not only a stalwart in offering software services but cares every bit about the security and privacy concerns of all its users.
