Hackers from Pro-Islamic State have launched a cyber attack on the 11 government websites of Ohio State on Sunday last week. The attack objective was to replace the homepage of the websites with anti- Donald Trump messages.
The government web pages which were replaced by defamatory messages include that of Ohio State Governor John Kasich.
However, officials from the State’s IT department managed to restore the web pages to normalcy by Monday afternoon.
And as per the details available to our Cybersecurity Insiders, the hackers group which launched the attack is called Team System Dz and is being funded by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
The criminals posted the following message on the homepage of Ohio’s websites
“You will be held accountable, Trump. You will pay heavy for all the blood flowing in Muslim Countries”.
Tom Hoyt, a spokesperson from Ohio Department of Administrative Services admitted that the state websites came under the cyber attack of ISIS for a brief period on Sunday. He also added that no data was accessed and compromised in this attack stint.
“But that doesn’t mean the threat scale can be lowered,” says Chris Olsen, the CEO of Cyber Security firm named Media Trust which provides security services to more than 500 publishers, ad networks, exchanges, agencies and corporations in Virginia.
Olson added that all government departments operating in the United States should be prepared to face such troubles in near future. He said that the government should put proactive measures in place to combat with such troubles.
From the past one year or so, FBI and NSA have been issuing alerts at regular intervals on such attacks. It has warned all public and private agencies to stay cautious of cyber attacks launched by enemy nations such as Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China.
Hope, all state departments operating in North America have taken a note of this trouble.
