Last week, a number of billboards erected in the busy centers of UK started to beam images from Big Brother, Shariah Law, SWASTIKA, and Donald Trump caricatured as a Frog. It surprised not only the shoppers and children passing by, but also the law enforcement authorities who were left baffled with the sudden development.
The company called BlowUp Media which manages the advertisements on the billboards said that its team was trying its best to find out what happened.
On Wednesday this week, a spokesperson representing BlowUp Media confirmed that some of the servers which displayed the ads on billboards were hacked by hackers last week and an anonymous group did so for fun.
BlowUp Media confirmed that the attack was not sourced by state funded actors and was just carried out by some ‘Geeks’ for reasons best known to them.
Daily Mail confirms that the 30 feet TV screens displaying the content surprised everyone on the busy streets which include children enjoying their holidays.
Later, Cybersecurity Insiders learned that the digital boards also displayed few A-rated clippings from 2016 Big Brother which were otherwise censored from the TV content.
Other content which was displayed includes some Islamic writings, and a cartoon showing US President Donald Trump in the style of Pepe the Frog.
BlowUp Media said that eight of their billboards were under the influence of the cyber attack for almost 2 hours. And as soon as the Blowup Media staff learned about the situation they brought it under control by cutting down the power to the billboards.
Let’s hope, the billboards in New York city are super-safe from such cyber attacks.
