Internet Juggernaut Google has finally decided to certify smart phones under ‘Play Protect’ mobile security strategy. So, from now on Google will provide certification to mobile phone makers based on their performance to Google’s security criteria.
The web services giant plans to give security certification will be given under the Google Play Protect- an Android security system which was unveiled recently.
Thus, from now on mobile manufacturers will have to commit to integrating Google’s official applications and pledge to comply with the terms and conditions of digital distribution service of Google Play.
Currently, more than 100 smart phone manufacturers have partnered with Google in the program. This includes Sony, Sharp, Sprint, TCL-Alcatel, Telenor, Verizon, Vivo, Vodafone, Xiomi, Yota, Nokia, Motorola, Lenovo, LG, HP, Huawei, HTC, Gionee, and last but not the least Samsung.
However, Samsung hasn’t announced the integration on an official note and so more details are awaited.
Manufacturers whose smart devices have been certified will have display a Play Protect logo on the box packing and also on the phone.
Technically speaking, Google Play Protect hunts down malware and flags suspect applications installed on devices. The security suite can also detect suspicious behavior of applications after install based on certain pre-determined parameters.
Note- Google’s Android Oreo (8.0) will have Play Protect as a fully integrated version. The search giant plans to offer Android Oreo (8.0) loaded Google Pixel 2 phones by this year end. Ad from early next year, the new Android OS will be available to other smart phone manufactures.
