Barracuda Networks has acquired cloud startup Sonian to improve security and data protection to customers using Office 365 and cloud environments. As the Sonian platform is designed with OEMs and managed services providers (MSP) in mind, Barracuda is in a hope to help extend its own channel reach with the latest deal.
Massachusetts based Sonian was founded in 2007 and offers cloud archiving and analytics products. Its technology aims to help customers store, access, and leverage data in email messages and attachments.
After acquisition Barracuda aims to add Sonian analytics and Artificial intelligence to its security platform to improve the security and data protection characteristics of its customers using Office 365 and cloud environments.
“Flexibility, ease of ownership and reliability of cloud platforms continue to drive the significant market demand”, said Tim McKinnon, CEO & President of Sonian. Tim added that Sonian technology is said to provide Barracuda networks a scalable platform which will help create a powerful value proposition for both partners and customers.
The acquisition will also bring in to Barracuda a large database of 32,000 Sonian users which includes some large managed services providers and software companies.
Some reliable sources reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders say that Barracuda has purchased Sonian for $55 million and is expected to complete the deal by 1Q of 2018.
The leading investors of Sonian include Lead Dog Ventures, Summerhill Ventures Partners, and OpenView Venture Partners.
After the deal was announced, the stocks of Barracuda jumped up to 4% and are expected to flourish more by this month end.
