In a bid to fight cybercrime, networking giant Cisco has signed an agreement with Interpol at its Singapore headquarters early today. And as a part of this understanding, Cisco will be sharing cyber threat intelligence with the International Criminal Police Organization from now on to inculcate a coordinated and focused approach between both the organizations through data sharing.
It’s said that the new accord between the tech giant and the law enforcement agency will not only allow the latter gain the knowledge of quick threat detection around the world. But is also said to pave way for potential future collaboration on training and knowledge sharing.
Earlier in 2014, Interpol signed a 3-year contract with TrendMicro in exchange for threat data analysis to be carried out at the Interpol Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) located in Singapore. It also used the products, intelligence and tech support of Kaspersky Lab to curtail sophisticated cyber attacks on banks and enterprises, organized by cyber crooks on a global scale.
Now, Cisco is said to take the place of Trend Micro with an aim to speed up threat detection around the world.
In a public statement issued a few hours ago, Interpol said that it has recognized from the beginning that tackling cybercrime requires a strong tech collaboration between private and public entities.
“And this is where Cisco fits into the bill on a perfect note. Its data sharing of vital cyber threat information will not only help Interpol to detect attacks on critical infrastructure but will also help the organization prevent them from the very state of occurrence”, said Noboru Nakatani, the Executive director of IGCI.
Cisco says that the agreement supports its organization’s objective of targeting both pure cybercrime and cyber-enabled crimes. It also added that the new collaboration will also help European countries with identifying cybercriminal schemes and the threat actors behind them.
