The government of Utah has officially disclosed that it is thwarting over 300 million cyberattacks on a daily note and in some days is seeing 900 million cyber attacks hitting its government systems.
A spokesperson for the government said that there were only 150 million daily attempts to hack into a government system in 2015. But now, the numbers have increased by 1000 times which clearly indicates that a serious threat is lurking over the critical infrastructure of United States.
Michael Hussey, the Chief Information Officer of Utah government said that he and his colleagues are thinking to host a new cyber center dedicated to the state in coming days. The center will be in lines with the UK National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) and might cost $19.5 million to the Utah Government.
Sources from Utah Department of State say that the cyber center would house the Department of Technology Services, the Department of Public Safety and the attorney general’s office and would be placed to the north of the current office. And the Center will be used by the government employees to share cyber intelligence and tactics and respond to cyber threats in a more coordinated way.
Also, the state is planning to filter good and bad traffic from the web traffic which is hitting its state’s utility websites.
Authorities say that they will be taking the help of artificial intelligence to do so. Hence, it plans to identify the traffic attacking them and is thinking to block that traffic from further hitting its servers on a permanent note.
Utah government is requesting all the businesses operating in its region to stay vigilant on a digital note and has asked them to increase their stand on cyber defenses.
