Business Wire suffering from denial of service attack!

Business Wire, a press release distributor and a business unit of Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathway, Inc said on Tuesday that its IT assets were suffering from a denial of service attack from the past one week and so its customers may witness an operational slowdown for a couple of days.

The San Francisco based company said that the attack could be the work of some state-sponsored actors who are trying to disable it to the core but failed to specify any names until the investigation gets over.

Business Wire Senior Vice President Neil Hershberg admitted that his company underwent a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on last weekend and at no point were clients or their data was compromised.

Neil added that their distribution network remained unaffected with the disruption as it was operational through data continuity services put in place as a part of business continuity planning. He also said that an investigation has been taken up by the law enforcement on this issue and more details can be expected by the end of next week.

Note- A distributed denial of service, shortly known as a denial of service attack takes place when high volumes of web traffic hit company’s servers and make it difficult for legitimate customers to access content.

Note- Business Wire is a company which releases around 1000 press releases per day. Founded in 1961 by Lorry I Lokey, the company is now known as a business subsidiary of Berkshire Hathway which owns a diverse range of businesses such as confectionary, retail, railroads, home furnishings, flight services,  jewelry sales, newspaper content publishing, and electric and gas utilities.
