CarePartners, an Ontario based home care service provider has issued a statement that it has become a victim of a cyber attack. Going deep into the details, Cybersecurity Insiders has learned that a cyber attack was launched by some cyber actors last month, as a result of which patient data and employee info was compromised. This includes data related to personal health and financial info of the patients.
However, the community health agency which serves Ontario’s Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) has given a clarification that it identified the breach on June 11 this year and is sure that none of the patient data has been compromised.
As a result of the attack, LHINs and CarePartners have suspended the online referral systems capacity to receive patient assignments until the investigation on the breach gets concluded.
A cybersecurity firm named Herjavec Group has been hired by the healthcare provider to contain and to determine the extent of the breach. Law enforcement officials and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario have been informed about the breach.
In order to compensate customers for the loss of data privacy, CarePartners has decided to offer those affected by the data breach a free credit monitoring for a year.
