All these days we have seen many nations including the US, UK, and Ukraine alleging that Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin have malicious intentions to launch cyber attacks on developed countries in order to create a political instability in the respective nations which would help the Russian federation emerge as a world leader in various aspects.
But to the surprise of many, in the last weekend, Putin issued a press statement urging countries for a close bonding in order to fend off cyber attacks.
Speaking at the Cybersecurity Conference in Moscow on Friday, the 4-time elected leader of the said country said that it’s important to develop common cybersecurity standards that take into account the interests of all the nations. He admitted that the threats in the cyber landscape have mounted to a new level around the world.
Disclosing some of the stats provided by his staff, Putin said that the number of cyber attacks on Russia has increased by one-third in the first quarter of 2018, compared to the same period last year.
When questioned on the allegations faced by his nation for launching cyber attacks on Ukraine, UK, and the US, the leader responded with a smiling face that the rumors are just speculations created by some state-funded actors following Yellow Journalism.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning news broke out that some state-funded actors from Russia are planning to launch a sophisticated cyber attack on the critical IT infrastructure in Britain in an assassination attempt. This includes targeting the digital assets related to water and power infrastructure.
Andrew Lloyd, President at Corero Network Security, a cybersecurity firm working on few of the government projects of UK has confirmed the news and added that the attack will most probably be in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack form.
