EnerMech LTD, a UK based company which supplies engineering and mechanical equipment to energy and Oil & Gas firms across the globe has released a press statement on last weekend saying its computer systems were hit by a malware attack since Friday morning forcing the company to send more than half of its staff to their homes after lunchtime.
Details of the malware variant are been kept under wraps. But officials from the Aberdeen based company confirm that the malware was a file-encrypting software which has hit its offices located in more than 40 locations across the world.
Security experts have been pressed into service to investigate the incident and clean up the malware from the database.
Authorities have confirmed that personal or confidential data was safe and never compromised in the incident.
Readers of Cybersecurity Insiders have to notify a fact over here that the security incident hit the company when Doug Duguid(57)- the Chief Executive Officer of EnerMech announced that he is going to give up his position in the company after leading it for a decade or so.
John Guy has been appointed as a CEO of EnerMech in the early hours of today.
Meanwhile, Brockton based non-profit organization named Father Bill’s and MainSpring has announced that it was targeted by hackers in April 2019 encrypting data of its users.
However, John Yazwinski, the CEO and President of the organization which works for homeless people said that the damage was mitigated by the IT staff of his organization within 30 seconds of the attack.
No critical data such as social security numbers were compromised in the incident and no files were replaced after the attack as the anti-ransomware solution which detected the malware was capable of quarantining the virus on time.
