Cyber Attack on City of Naples leads to $700,000 theft

City of Naples is said to have witnessed a theft of $700,000 on a digital note via a cyber-attack which was highly sophisticated states the City Manager Charles T Chapman IV. As the incident is under investigation more details are not being disclosed to the media for reasons.

Cybersecurity Insiders has learned that the currency steal took place from the official account of the City of Naples. The fund was meant to be associated with Wright Construction Group which was hired for the Utility renovation project of 8th Street South.

The technology staff of the city says that they took all the preventive measures to thwart such cyber threats in advance. But as the attack was sophisticated- a phishing email kind; the fund steal could not be blocked on time.

However, the good news is that the law enforcement agency which is investigating the incident is confident enough to find the details of the perpetrators within no time and have assured that the stolen money will be restored to the respective account in next few days.

A third party Cybersecurity agency has also been reportedly pressed into the investigation to assist the law enforcement.

More details are awaited!

Note 1- A source from the administrative department of the City reports that an insurance claim was raised against the incident by the authorities on Thursday this week.

Note 2- Cyber Attacks on cities, municipalities and school districts have increased in the US this year and that might be because these digital infrastructures are vulnerable to hackers due to different reasons.
