A San Francisco based security researcher attending the annual DefCon Cybersecurity Convention in Las Vegas, United States has demonstrated that an Apple iPhone cable can be tricked to hack computers.
Mike Grover, widely known as MG on Twitter has reportedly developed a fake charging cord related to Apple iPhones that can hijack a computer through Wi-Fi.
Grover says that this cable named as O.MG cable looks and works just like the original one supplied by Apple inc along with its iPhones.
However, technically the researcher made some more advances to the cord by implanting a small minuscule device into the cable which connects with a computer IP address via Wi-Fi. And from here, a hacker can take control of the device with the help of the fake Apple iPhone Cable.
“It’s like taking virtual control of a device with the help of keyboard and mouse of the victim, without actually being present at the device location in physical”, says Grover.
What’s more concerning about this cable is that it can operate within 300 feet radius and has a kill switch to erase the presence of bad guys after the hacking procedure gets completed.
Note- MG has spent countless hours in developing the cable and has invested heavily in the project for coding and exploit developments. Shortly, the security researcher has an idea to sell his tech online for $100 which might trigger a threat to Information Security within no time.
