All Win 10 users get Windows Defender by default which helps them protect against the most dangerous cyber threats vying in the cyber landscape. But most of us don’t know that the anti-malware solution offered by the American tech giant Microsoft also has Ransomware protection.
It was added in October 2017 security update to all Windows 10 users; just after the WannaCry ransomware disrupted more than 250,000 computers across the world in May’17.
Microsoft has issued a media statement recently that turning on the ransomware protection solely lies on user’s choice where he/she can opt for a feature called “Controlled folder Access” which offers to whitelist certain programs to avoid false positives.
However, even with the best protection on-board, Microsoft is encouraging its users to backup files to a cloud platform or a secondary storage appliance. As it ensures disaster recovery at the earliest if anything untoward happens.
Also, some Windows 10 users suggest that going for double or triple protection like installing 1 or 2 antivirus solutions makes sense in practice, as nowadays, no solution can be treated as 100% effective.
But security analysts opinion that the 2-3 AV solutions will put the superfluous burden on the processor. And so better go for 1 premium solution which offers you everything at a fraction of cost.
Note- Microsoft’s Windows 10 Operating system also offers ransomware protection to Onedrive stored files and folders. Meaning, cloud-based files, and folders can also be protected with the anti-malware solution of Windows Defender.
