Cybersecurity Researchers from ESET say that Google Play Store was hosting AhMyth Spyware in disguise of a Radio Balouch or RB Music App despite the fact that the application was twice removed from the Android app store since 2017.
Going deep, AhMyth is spyware which has the tendency to steal info without the knowledge of users and then transmits that info to remote servers owned by hackers.
ESET argues that the said malware was being propagated through the app from the past two years without the knowledge of Balouchi or Balochi Music enthusiasts-
The good news in this whole malware threat saga is that ESET mobile security solution has been protecting its users from the repercussions of AhMyth from the past few months and is having the potential of thwarting such attacks of any range.
When ESET researchers reported the incident to Google’s security team on July 2nd, 2019 it was removed within 18 hours. However, the fake Balouchi Radio streaming app reappeared on the Google Playstore on July 13th, 2019 which was again reported to the concerned authorities.
Here the threat is not only with the spyware, but its reappearance on Google Playstore after constant appealing.
Security experts from ESET have analyzed that the commonly used spyware products prevailing on G Playstore in disguise of various apps related to Kids, games, music, and e-wallets are mSpy, Hoverwatch, FlexiSPY, The TruthSPY, Highster Mobile, Teensafe, Mobistealth, Cerberus, and TrackView.
All these spyware including AhMyth are capable of leaking info such as GPS location of the infected device, record phone calls, call logs, internet browsing, record VOIP calls, capture-SMS text, emails and transmit data related to photos and videos.
