Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and the owner of Tesla is reported to have a strange habit of changing his phone every 10-12 months. And sources say that he does it due to Data Security fears that someone might get hold of that device and somehow dig out data which might play havoc in his life later.
According to a sensitive document highlighted by Business Insider, the owner of the American Electric Carmaker destroys his phone after buying a new one after a specific period. He then wipes out data on the old device, and then stores it or destroys it later.
Cybersecurity Insiders has learned that the document from which the revelation was made was submitted to an ongoing court hearing where Musk was sued by a diver named Vernon Unsworth for calling him a ‘Pedo Guy’ on Twitter last year.
With regards to a case and an incident, the court learned that Musk changes his Cell Phone on an occasional note due to reasons that have to do with data security and leak of sensitive information.
“Switching to a new phone can help get rid of malware on a specific device, but it doesn’t solve “Account Takeover” security issues as hackers can gain access to your credentials and login info within 24 hours of use of a new device”, says Maya Levine, a security engineer from Checkpoint.
Levine recommends to those concerned about security to maintain mobile usage hygiene when it comes to protecting a device from cyber threats. Like never connecting to public devices, always keeping your Wi-Fi switched off, never opening links obtained through texts and emails and always downloading apps from safe and secure sources like Google Play Store.
