Germany based automation services provider ‘Pilz’ has made it official that it became a victim of a ransomware attack on October 13th, 2019 and since then officials report that the servers, PC workstations including communication channels and services related to cloud-based automation have been impacted worldwide.
Pilz also reported the issue to the prosecutor’s office and Federal Office for Security in Information Technology yesterday and warned that the outage might continue for several more days.
Meanwhile, the IT staff are busy locating the source for the ransomware spread and who could be behind the attack. And all communications to the main servers and the corporate network has been blocked for the time being.
Email Communication, Delivery of shipments were impacted by the malware incident. However, the email systems were brought back to life on a partial note on Friday last week. But by the night of Saturday, the communication medium was again down due to technical reasons.
The officials at PILZ are yet to get a detailed report of the impact as the company operates with subsidiaries in more than 70 countries around the world which includes America, Asia Pacific, and Europe.
On Business front, the company which started as a glass-blowing business is now headquartered in Ostfildern, Germany and is known to offer a range of products which includes automated industrial equipment including configurable safety controllers, programmable safety systems, safety sensors, operator and visualization systems, networks, system and application software, AI-based safety systems and such.
