Iran’s Telecommunication Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi has released a press statement a few hours ago saying that a massive cyberattack from a foreign nation was thwarted by his nation’s cybersecurity team last week.
Mr. Azari Jahromi says that a state-funded cyber attack was launched on the e-government infrastructure of Iran at the end of last week and the objective was to push the nation into crisis.
The Minister is describing the attack as massive and says that it was state-sponsored by a foreign nation hinting the United States.
In an interview with a correspondent from Reuters, the Minister warded off the media speculations that US NSA has launched a cyberattack on Iran’s Oil Refining companies on September 14th, 2019.
He stated that the attack could have been a fig planted by some imaginative minds involved in Yellow Journalism.
Note 1- In Oct’19, Tehran issued a high alert that a physical or cyberattack was being targeted at the oil installations of Iran by this year-end.
Note 2- The alert came as soon as the Washington Dc, Riyadh, Berlin, London, and Paris issued a collective statement blaming Iran for cyberattacks that damaged the Oil Sector of Saudi in Sept’19 forcing the Globe’s largest oil exporter to partially halt its operations and cut down its production for a couple of weeks. However, Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General of the United Nations Security Council released a press statement in Nov’19 that the Iranian government’s involvement in the attack is yet to be probed.
