Business disruption now considered as biggest Cyber Threat than data thefts

As per a research conducted by Crowdstrike, business disruption is now feared to be the biggest cyber threat than just data theft for businesses- as cybercriminals are seeing the former as their main attack objective than the latter.

Security researchers from the company which offers endpoint protection via cloud argue that the year 2019 was ruled mainly by destructive malware like ransomware and distributed denial of service(DDoS) attacks.

What’s interesting about the survey is that the researchers discovered that hackers were able to hide their malevolent activities on corporate networks for more than 95 days on an average- as companies are showing laxity in deploying threat monitoring solutions due to lack of budget or for other means.

“And as the new attack vectors are on the rise and ever-evolving, most CTOs and CIOs are failing to remain agile by proactively committing to conquering them,” said Shawn Henry, Chief Security Officer and President of CrowdStrike.

Henry added that hackers are on prowl of seeking the least resistance path and this is what company leaders are offering them by showing least interest in stepping-up their cyber defenses

Crowdstrike survey says that most of the cyber threats could be easily handled by creating awareness among employees on what is happening in the current cyber landscape, asking them to follow basic cyber hygiene and patching up vulnerable security flaws by much-needed software.

The report concludes that most company leaders are in a false sense of Cybersecurity that they are immune to most cyber threats. But that sense of security is reported to be completely false as these leaders are failing to configure their security systems properly and in an efficient way.
