Cloud Data dispersal is exhibiting new security vulnerabilities

Cloud Data dispersal is exhibiting new cyber risks says a survey conducted by McAfee report. According to a new research report titled “Enterprise Supernova” released by the Cybersecurity Company McAfee, those enterprises which are indulging in the activity of dispersing their data on cloud platforms are losing their control over it which can thus lead to several cyber threats.

Thus the research highlights several critical gaps for enterprise security when it comes to cloud data storage; as over 79% of businesses claimed that they store sensitive info on public clouds, while 41% from among them believe that the CSP must take of all security issues as soon as the data from their clients arrive on its platform.

McAfee Survey which highlights the risks associated with data dispersion on the cloud also states that 52% of companies utilize cloud services that have hit news headlines for data breaches. Thus, it leaves a security gap where companies themselves are opening up to cyber-attack activities like data loss- regulatory non-compliant issues.

Joel Camissar, the Regional Director of McAfee from Australia supports the theory mentioned in the report by stating that enterprises are taking risks by storing data on the cloud and away from their enterprise networks which then leads to fragmentation of visibility and control- thus opening more security vulnerabilities.

Mr. Camissar opinions that CIOs and CTOs can avoid these threats by having a clear understanding of where their enterprise data is going and how the risks are evolving in a typical cloud-native security framework.

But wonder who is listening? As most of the technology officers in SMBs are either showing a blind eye towards such issues due to budget regulations or lacking awareness on how these risks could pose big in the future. And some choose to be reactive rather than proactive, as it avoids making investments on threat monitoring solutions in advance
