Homeland Security of New Jersey has warned its residents against a cyber campaign which in the disguise of spreading awareness among the populace about COVID 19 is seen targeting minorities, individuals, and public entities with scams, cyber-attacks, and digital invasions.
The law enforcement agency says that white supremacists were trying to induce a social breakdown in the country by taking advantage of the panic situation by focusing on Cybersecurity vulnerabilities to breach certain computer systems.
As the public interest has shifted to the virus spread and its containment measures taken up by the government, hackers are seen using the scenario by launching phishing emails where attachments are laced with malicious codes to infect private and public networks.
The state and federal authorities have issued a warning that some foreign powers are trying to induce panic into the populace by propagating fake messages such as the one which included text in early April’2020 that 2-week quarantine was being implemented by US Homeland Security and the National Guard.
Last week, the White House issued an update to the media saying that some nations like Russia and China were trying to spread disinformation- mostly related to a fake lockdown extension.
Consequently, the Federal authority stated that the populace of the country should only follow the guidelines issued by state and local authorities to stay updated with the truth.
