European Parliament Data Breach due to Cyber Attack

A Cyber Attack launched on European Parliament is reported to have led to a serious data breach which includes information related to 1200 accounts of elected officials, staff, and 15,000 EU Affairs Professionals.

And the highlight of the data breach is that it was not identified by the IT staff of the EU parliament. But was discovered and revealed to the media by an Indian Cybersecurity firm named ‘Shadowmap’.

Yash Kadakia, the founder of ‘Shadowmap’ has acknowledged the news as ‘True’ and added that data such as passwords, job designations, and descriptions, were accessed by a security expert named ‘Code Monkey’ from the web portal which belonged to the EU Parliament domain

Was the data leak a technical blunder or done with an objective is yet to be determined.

But Yash said that data related to thousands of people linked to political parties and institutions and law enforcement was also available for access to the public domain. And this includes data related to Europol, European Data Protection Supervisor, border agency Frontex, and such.

Marcel Kolaja, the Vice President of the IT department of the EU Parliament has confirmed the news and said that it was revealed on the web portal linked to the europarl.eu domain. The IT expert also added in the statement that the emails used by the europa.eu domain was under cyber threat.
