Britain is getting prepared to thwart a major cyber attack dubbed as ‘ Cyber 9/11’ from China as tensions between the two nations have intensified over issues like Corona Virus spread, Hong Kong and the proposal to ban Huawei’s 5G networks in UK.
Security analysts suggest that ‘Cyber 9/11’ would be much more intense as it will have the potential to disrupt entire computer networks, phone lines, and power and internet blackouts.
However, at UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, a cyber arm of GCHQ sees the threat differently. It says that they might not be an increase in cyber attacks, but the intensity of future attacks might high and be rebellious.
Connor McGinn, the Security Minister of UK says that we have warned the officials protecting critical infrastructure in the region about a possible cyber attack from hostile states and he added that they are full prepared to combat threats of any scale to the core.
Note– In June 2020, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated that his country was witnessed by intense cyber attacks from a state-funded actor targeting industries, political organizations, government, education, health, essential service providers and operators of critical infrastructure.
On a similar note, UK is expecting a major cyber attack from China as it is intending to impose a ban on Huawei products usage in its region by this year end and is supporting Hong Kong in their war against China over economic and cultural issues.
