Over 46% of those whose email addresses get hacked are sure that they would experience cyber fraud at some point of time in the future. As consumer group Which? has discovered that most companies are still not taking information security on a serious note.
Although most companies are holding humongous amounts of critical info like payment card details and customer addresses, they do not show any seriousness in protecting it. And this might lead to ID thefts, money steal, and such frauds in the future, say experts.
Email addresses can lead to phishing attacks where hackers try to mimic official entities to make money in fraudulent way. BA, Marriott Hotels, software cloud firm Blackbaud, and Easy Jet are the companies that have been hit by hackers say experts.
“When we are shopping online and booking a ticket online, we take companies into trust and hand over our data. But if they cannot protect the info, then they need to be accountable to what has happened on a serious note”, says Jenny Ross, Money related editor working for Which?
So, what we should do to protect data- It’s just simple, just follow the below tips to stay cyber safe-
Use strong passwords such as the ones that have a mixture of alphanumeric characters along with 1 or 2 special characters. Also, it’s better to use a two factor authentication and stay safe.
Never allow your browser or the website save your credit card details as it allows hackers sneak into your information.
Prefer opting for a guest checkout if you are not in a mood to use an online service that often. And create an account only if the need arises for you on a serious note.
