Apple T2 Chip that was developed to block deep system access to hackers is in news for all wrong reasons. A security researcher has found a vulnerability on the T2 Chip that is hard to patch. And when exploited could offer the hackers access to the core operating system, allowing them to alter functions on the SSD data storage drive, camera, messaging apps and audio controls.
To what is known to Cybersecurity Insiders, the security vulnerability was discovered on October 6th,2020 and the technology giant admitted on October 9th that the flaw cannot be patched.
Micheal Horton of Kaspersky said that the flaw was existing since one year in the dark and was being used by hackers to jailbreak older iPhones.
So, all your Mac users who bought the device with the latest T2 chip inside, you better be aware of the vulnerability as it can prove devastating to your Apple’s Mobile Ecosystem on a wholesome note.
Launched in 2017, Apple’s T2 Chip was developed to offer high value security features like encrypted data storage, touch ID security, activation lock.
Note- Jailbreaking allows Apple device users to install applications, extensions and plugins from third parties by removing software restrictions imposed by the proprietary iOS. However, Apple Inc has publicly addressed the ‘Jailbreaking’ act as a crime as it allows users to install apps from sources other than the official play store, making them vulnerable to malware, phishing and other kinds of cyber attacks. Countries like United States, UK and Canada have announced the jailbreaking of iPhones as illegal. While other countries like Australia, India, New Zealand, and Singapore haven’t yet taken a stand on it.
