Ransomware attack on India Dr. Reddy’s Pharmaceutical Company

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, an Indian Pharma Company that offers its products and services across the world, is reported to have become a victim of the cyber attack. And unconfirmed reports say that the incident is of ransomware variant where file-encrypting malware entered the corporate network and has locked down some servers from access.

The Indian Drugmaker did not confirm the ransomware attack on its servers. But said that a cyberattack has crippled its data center operations across the world and so the company has decided to pull them down for a couple of days.

Now, to all those reading this article here’s a fact to enlighten your minds. Dr. Reddy’s Labs is the only company in Indian that has secured a permit from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct phase II and III trials of Russian COVID 19 Vaccine Sputnik V.

Dr. Reddy’s that is based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India was busy conducting the Corona related vaccine trials when hackers disrupted its operations via a cyber-attack crippling most of its critical servers.

“We are sure that the services will be restored within 24 hours as there is no deep impact on our operations”, said Mukesh Rathi, the CIO of Dr. Reddy’s Labs.

Note – FYI, the Sputnik V Vaccine that is being tested on the Indian population is backed by Russia’s Sovereign wealth fund (RDIF). Actually, the funding is provided after the Drug maker officially collaborated with the Russian government last month after which assurance was made by the Putin nation to supply 100 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine that was developed by Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in July this year.
