Britain has gone into the lock-down mode for the second time this year, and security analysts fear that this could prove fatal to online users.
The National Cyber Security Center(NCSC), a cyber arm of GCHQ, says that the first round of lock down witnessed 723 online attacks on those managing critical infrastructure. And out of them, 428 were related to corona virus.
And cyber experts predict that more such attacks could be witnessed in the 2nd round of lock down as most of the populace will stay online to kill boredom or loneliness.
The highlight of the ‘NCSC find’ is that some state funded hackers and cyber crooks were intensely focused on stealing intelligence behind vaccine research conducted by Oxford University. While others were behind hospitals treating COVID-19 patients and inducing malware into healthcare networks to conduct snooping activities in the future.
So, NCSC has issued an alert to all public and private entities about the COVID Pandemic linked lock-down and asked them to raise their defense-line against cyber attacks. The cyber arm of GCHQ has also appointed a special cyber force dedicated to Britain’s National Health Service to retaliate cyber attacks being distributed in the name of Corona.
Note- As Dec.31 the end of the Brexit transition period is fast approaching, most of the Brexit trade negotiations are taking place online. So, NCSC is advising the admin framework of government to avoid cyber breaches by improving the security measures of systems that are monitoring the flow of goods at the border states.
