UK NCSC offers tips to dodge Black Friday Cyber Scams

Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre aka NCSC has issued some guidelines to online users that help them in dodging Black Friday Cyber Scams.

As the Pandemic shut down might force most of the populace to shop for best deals online, it will also encourage the cyber criminals on a proportionate note to exploit them.

This is where there is a high probability of them falling prey to phishing or ransomware attacks.

So, NCSC has issued some guidelines to online shoppers to help them stay safe from online frauds, and those include

a.) Be very cautious before shopping online and only rely on known websites rather than the newly sprouted ones.

b.) Just provide the needed information and stop spilling all your secrets like your passport numbers and bank credentials.

c.) Always use a secure, protected payment gateway.

d.)Keep all your online shopping accounts safe with 2FA

e.) Never click, only links sent from suspicious emails or messages.

f.) Report to the cyber crime units as soon as you fall prey to cyber scammers.

“At this time of year, when Christmas season is about to start, our email inboxes will be filled with promotional emails promising incredible deals. But shoppers need to be cautious and make the right choices to help cut down cyber risks”, said Sarah Lyons, Deputy Director of NCSC.

Now what the British government is doing- Well, the government has already started weeding out malicious URLs via Active Cyber Defense Program. That said, it has removed over 113,456 websites in the past 12 months that were either fake or found delivering malware in the past 12 months.
