Cloud service providers to reveal foreign clientele identity

Donald Trump, the 45Th US President who took an exit from his designation a few hours ago, left the white house with a last-minute order that makes it mandatory for cloud service providers to reveal the identity of their foreign clients.

Although, the order should block certain companies operating on the foreign soil to make any business connect with the American companies, many privacy advocates see this order as a privacy breach.

Technically, the executive order that could be repelled by the 46th US President Joe Biden if intended could be a game changer for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Providers aka cloud service providers (CSPs).

It is like ‘Know your Customer’ rules that prevail in the financial sector, mostly ruled by banks and insurance companies.

“The order has been issued to keep a check on the abuse of United States IaaS Products that took place in the past four years. And the development resulted from the latest solorigate hack that was discovered by FireEye in Nov’2020,” said Robert O Brien, the National Security Advisor for Trump.

Amazon, Google and Apple have a time frame of 180 days to respond to the latest executive order that could be repelled by the latest administration.

Confirmed sources from Trump administration say that the draft regulation was passed after receiving a recommendation from the Cyber Threat Alliance, a threat sharing platform for companies operating in America.
