In continuation to what NSA is doing, the 100-day-old Biden Government has plans to monitor the online and digital communication activity of American citizens. As per the report on CNN, this public surveillance program will be carried out by Department of Homeland Security and will be done by collaborating with private companies, mainly those belonging to technology sector.
DHS will go with the mindset to work directly with the private firms and will use their resources to track down the online activity of its American populace.
Highly places sources say that the program will keep a check on what is being shared by the populace on social media platforms such as Facebook and the websites and will function under the rules set by the federal authorities and the white house administration.
The good part of this surveillance program will be to keep a tab of what the American populace is writing and sharing online, especially in various groups section and will keenly monitor texts, images, videos and docs.
White house sources say that this domestic espionage will be done with regard to the stipulations planned and set by the National Security Administration (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
In the year 2013, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed to the world that his agency was monitoring every activity of American populace along with some prominent personalities and leaders of the world.
Cementing the theory was the claims made by Julian Assange in 2017 Wikileaks that stated that CIA hacked and was spying on all the smart phones activity of the US Citizens.
Both the stories were later proved to be true, making Snowden and Assange take asylum in Russia till 2019.
CIA initially denied hacking and spying on the smart phones and later stated that it was doing the activity in full compliance with the US law and the constitution.
