A ransomware attack reportedly exposed files related to a US Fertility Clinic in April this year and news are now out that the victim managed to recover its data from the threat actor and has taken assurance from the malware spreading gang that the accessed information was deleted permanently from their servers after successful negotiations.
Thus, it directly gives us the hint that the clinic made a ransom payment to those who injected ransomware into the computer network and then taken assurance from them that the information they stole before locking down the database was wiped out for sure…. Are you sure?
The fertility clinic we are discussing is the Reproductive Biology Association (RBA) that was the first IVF service provider in the state of Georgia, United States, and has an association with fertility clinic network ‘My Egg Bank’.
Over 30,000 patient records that include full names, social security numbers, addresses, lab results, and other treatment details were reportedly accessed by hackers. And the IT staff of RBA took an assurance from hackers that all the stolen data will never be leaked on the dark web in the future.
Details on who broke into the network injected the file-encrypting malware and received the ransom for freeing up the database will be updated shortly!
Note- There is no guarantee that those spreading ransomware will keep their promise and will not leak the stolen data online sometime in the coming months. Moreover, there is no guarantee that they have wiped out the data stored on the servers without a doubt.
