SolarWinds recovered from the last year’s massive Cyber Attack

SolarWinds, a software maker having 300,000 clients around the globe, was hit by a massive cyber attack in early 2020. And its staff detected it in November, after a security company named FireEye triggered a warning that the firm’s computer systems were operating under the control of hackers funded by a foreign nation from many days.

Later, in a detailed probe launched by FBI, it was discovered that the attack was launched by breaching the network of SolarWinds to conduct espionage and the suspicion finger was raised towards the Vladimir Putin led nation Russia.

The Texas based company issued a press statement at the end of last week that it was on road to recovery from the sophisticated cyber attack that affected almost all the US Government entities using its accounting software.

SolarWinds that reached the list of Fortune 500 companies in 2018 stated that the attack must act as an eye opener to other firms who need to review their security posture and take immediate measures to mitigate risks proactively.

Experts suggest companies should start focusing on improving their threat detection skills, if not prepare to fully thwart the attack in this digital age, as it can save them from significant financial and reputational damage.

Note- In December 2020, experts from FireEye discovered that the hackers from Russian exploited a flaw in the software provided by SolarWinds and infiltrated other company networks that used the software. And that includes multinational companies such as Microsoft, VMware, Homeland Security, Treasury department and commerce, DHS, The European Parliament and NATO.
