Android 13 promises more on Mobile Security and Privacy

Google disclosed at its I/O developer conference that its upcoming beta version of Android 13 mobile OS will have more features on privacy and security. This means it will take the security and privacy of users seriously and will allow them to take control over what is being accessed by apps and what not should be permitted to them.

For instance, the new Android 13 operating system of Google will allow users to opt for a “Photo Picker” option so that apps might only have access to that particular folder housing permitted photos and videos. Similarly, any app desiring to access the audio, image, and video files needs to every time ask for the user’s permission to access files from a device.

Alphabet Inc’s subsidiary will offer a new feature in its Android 13 OS that will make it mandatory for apps to take prior permission before they can send any notifications. Although the new feature is also present in Oses released after Android 9, the 13th version will be strict in purveying this feature.

Coming to Android 13 official release, sources who attended the/O conference confirmed its release in July or August this year. And almost all the Google Pixel phones starting from the 4th edition will be eligible to get the big update. That is Pixel 4, 4 XL, 4a, 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro were confirmed to get an OS update by September 2022.

Speaking about the other manufacturers- Samsung, Motorola, Oppo, Xiaomi, and OnePlus are the only manufacturers who have been given the nod to bask in the upgrade. As the upgrade eligibility solely depends on the screen size, processing power, RAM, and storage space on the operating device.

And all the smartphone models that are a part of the Android One program will also be eligible for the free Android 13 update as per Google’s pledge of providing two years of updates for sure after release.
