TikTok gave data security reassurance to the United States

For the past two years, the United States is asking TikTok for an assurance that it will surely keep the data of its USA users safe and secure from hackers, espionage, and state-funded hacks.

Finally, the Chinese company TikTok seems to have reacted to the sincere pursuits and talked a bit about ‘Project Texas’ against the rising data security concerns. The video-sharing app says that it is closely working with US firm Oracle Corporation on tools that help adhere to the information security guidelines provided by the Biden administration.

TikTok also made it official that the data generated, shared, and stored by users of the United States will never leave the country. Unlike the usual law, it will transmit all data generated by its users in other countries to government-owned data centers in Beijing.

Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok, submitted a letter on this note to the Senate on Thursday and also admitted that it will use data centers operating in Singapore and Malaysia as backups for disaster recovery.

What’s still concerning about this new follow-up is the fact that Chinese employees of the company can still access the data in the United States after following a series of robust cybersecurity controls and legal instrumentation supervised by a US-based security team.

As per the agreement, the video-making mobile app assured it will finish the data migration of data stored on its home systems to Oracle Cloud Servers in the United States by this year-end.

Note 1- TikTok is still owned by a Chinese technological firm ByteDance which has links with the Communist Party of China. So, under the regime of President Donald Trump, the usage of the application having 1 billion active users was banned in and around the United States due to concerns over national security.

Note 2- Apparently, Project Texas is the US devised a plan to cut out complete access of Chinese engineers to TikTok Servers.
