Russian war on Ukraine has made organizations change cybersecurity tactics

In a survey conducted by Venafi, it was found that 66% of business firms have changed their security strategies. And the same number of them sensed that the ongoing conflict has either affected them directly or indirectly in the past 6 months.

Respondents who took part in the survey confirmed that the conflict of Moscow with Kyiv has ejected a cyberwar situation that could have devastated the impact on all industries across the world.

Nation state attacks as geopolitics and kinetic warfare are deeply effecting nations and as of now, there seems to be no silver bullet to counter such attacks.

Concerningly, Venafi observed nation state threat actors are using advanced technologies such as deep fake backed by artificial intelligence to propel attacks. And that could ruin not one country, but the entire world.

For instance, in May & July this year, a deep fake video circulated on Facebook n having Volodymyr Zelensky on screen created panic among the Ukrainians. One fine morning, they were surprised to hear a video featuring Zelensky urging the citizens to bow down to the demands of Russian soldiers. But in reality, that was a mischief created by a cyber arm of the Russian army to create panic and fear among the civilians.

And just after this fake video circulation, Kremlin launched a Hermetic Wiper attack that had the potential to clean-wipe all the data on the infected machines.

However, the motives of the malware circulation were neutralized by Ukraine, all thanks to the special trained forces deployed by the UK on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

To counter such attacks, security experts are suggesting an IT framework that can provide valuable and real-time insights into the infrastructure on a proactive note.
