Cyber Attack on PlayStation and Xbox users leaks 4.4 million user details

A Cyber Attack on Gaming Forums of PlayStation and Xbox is said to have leaked critical information of more than 4.4 million users. The info includes details such as account passwords, email addresses, IP Addresses and such.

As per our sources, the hack was carried out on three forums named ‘ CD Projekt Red’, ‘XBOX360 ISO’ and ‘PSP ISO’ by a group of cyber criminals in January this year. And so gamers using these entertainment platforms are advised to change the password for all of their accounts.

It has to be notified over here that a hack of a similar sort was carried out on the same platforms in September 2015. So, the latest cyberheist can be tagged as a repeat of the history.

And there is not news on whether the hack conducted in January this year contains new credentials or is just the old content dump.

In general, attackers make money by selling such details to marketing companies. Once they make money, cybercrooks often dump the data onto the dark web which can be used by other cyber criminals who report such hacks to the media to make money again.

Thus, when the users of these platforms use the same password on multiple web services, the obtained credentials can act as a treasure trove for hackers in future.

Till date, security companies have been repeatedly pleading web users that they should not use the same passwords for accessing different web services like social media and email accounts.

But a recent survey conducted by Kaspersky discovered that more than 70% of web users still use the same password to access various online services, despite knowing the consequences of such practices.

The Media is already doing its bit in educating online users on why usage of the same password to access different web services should be stopped on an immediate basis.

However, Online users are showing a blind eye to such educational content for reasons best known to them.

Hope, the latest cyber attack news helps all globally located gaming enthusiasts to practice healthy online practices while accessing web services.
