A Survey report compiled by Kaspersky Lab says that 81 Percent of the American and Canadian populace is being plagued by Cyber Stress. Means their mind is experiencing fatigue as soon as they hear news of data breaches.
To quantify their findings on the effect of online threat on people’s minds, Kaspersky Lab studied the intentions of over 2K consumers based in the region of North America and Canada. The objective was to find their response towards cyber security and what actions they take to show resiliency towards cyber threats.
Kaspersky lab survey confirmed that the populace of West and are becoming increasingly reliant on digital devices to store personal info. This has led to the fact that millions of people have concurrently become victims to cyber attacks in recent years.
Furthermore, the report says that younger generation is showing a lot of laxities while choosing passwords and keeping a track of their online accounts which is adding fuel to the current cyber stress.
Nearly half of the consumers aged 16 to 24 say that they are finding it extremely difficult to manage the number of passwords they have.
Thus, the survey concludes that the constant pressure to protect the digital data and online privacy is acting as a catalyst to deteriorate the health of the online users who are already struggling with cyber stress.
“With massive data breaches and cyber attacks being revealed by media every week, consumers are increasingly becoming aware of cyber risks associated with being online”, said Brian Anderson, Vice President of Consumer Sales, Kaspersky Lab North America. He added that there are many people out there who do not have an idea on how to secure their devices from cyber threats or what to do when they become a victim.
Kaspersky researchers suggest that the only way to deal with the situation is to take proactive measures by learning more about cyber security and implement security solutions.
At the same time, both consumers and businesses must educate themselves on cybersecurity. As education and actions can become a source of empowerment rather than frustration as it assists consumers to embrace and use the technology in a safe way- instead of allowing it to create cyber stress.
