Mobile Security features of Google Play Protect are termed to be worse!

Germany based AV-Test organization which evaluates antivirus solutions meant for Microsoft and Android operating systems has termed Google Play Protect’s mobile security feature as one of the worst solutions available in the Android market.

AV-test is said to have come to the said conclusion after testing more than 3,016 samples of the latest Android Malware on Play Protect. The company claims that its tests discovered that only 65.8 percent malware was being detected by Play Protect against 96% malware detection capabilities by other solutions.

Also, Google’s built-in mobile security features were able to identity only 79.2 % of malware discovered in the past 4 weeks, against an industry average of 98.4%.

The company says that it used the most current version of the software for testing and the tests mainly focused on issues like malware detection, usability, performance and false positive.

AV-Test ranked Ahnlab V3 Mobile Security in the first position and Avast Mobile Security in a fourth of the list pertaining to the top antivirus products to fight Android malware. The research publishing institute also said that the former was capable of detecting 99.8% of Android malware and the latter was able to detect 99.1 percent.

Note- Google started to focus on mobile security from the past two years. It released an exclusive solution named ‘Play Protect’ in May this year, to detect malicious apps. So far, the company claims that it has removed over 500 applications including games from the Play Store on suspicion that they were spreading malicious software to users or downloaders.
