Proofpoint acquires Dathena

Proofpoint, the American company offering enterprise security services has announced that it is going to acquire Singapore-based security startup Dathena for an undisclosed amount. The deal is said to bolster the data loss prevention capabilities of Proofpoint as Dathena developed an AI based technology that can smartly distinguish data from large data sets, thus cutting down OPEX costs.

Gary Steele, the CEO of Proofpoint, stated that the newly acquired machine learning technology of Dathena will assist his company’s DLP solutions with excellence in data protection along with compliance requirements- both in & out.

Therefore, business firms can detect real-time threats in a better way by using AI technology to classify information from large data sets.

“We are excited to join the workforce of Proofpoint as it helps our vision of protecting data and privacy of companies around the world,” said Chris Moffat, the CEO of Dathena.

Singapore-based Dathena gained a $12m Series ‘A’ funding from Jungle Ventures in May 2020 and after its acquisition by Proofpoint, the company wants to invest the amount in the R&D efforts of its North American business. Currently, the company claims to have a user base of 200,000 from all business segments, including healthcare, defense and finance.

Note- Proofpoint, a California based software as a service company, offers social media platform security, data loss prevention, mobile security, digital risks, email encryption and email archiving services. In the year 2021, this company was acquired by Thoma Bravo for $12.8 billion- all in cash.
