Russia invests heavily in Cyber Attack Machine to influence US 2020 Elections

A new Cyberwarfare report revealed by Cybersecurity firm Checkpoint states that Russia has been investing heavily on a ‘Cyber Attack Machine’ from early this year which is probably aimed to disrupt or influence the US 2020 elections which are slated to be held in November next year.

On learning about the cyber threat, the US Director of National Intelligence stated that it has appointed a new in-charge to monitor election-related cyber threats which shows that the American Intelligence Community has taken the threats as a priority.

Security analysts from all over the world are not surprised by the developments. However, they are indeed concerned on the sheer scale of investment made by Russia which gives us a thought that they are indeed building up to something big which might spell doomsday on the west.

In the year 2017, there was a lot of media speculation that US 2016 Elections were influenced by Russian favoring the win of Donald Trump. A joint investigation conducted by the FBI and CIA in Dec’16 stated that the results of the election were in influenced by a foreign nation. However, the report which was submitted to the then-president Barack Obama did not mention the name of the adversary which was reported to have tricked the election results.

In March’17 after learning about the report details from the Wall Street Journal Trump said that the claim was a figment of yellow journalists who were on a political witch-hunt.

Russian President Vladimir Putin denied the allegations in an International Summit and stated that his country did not need to influence the western country elections.

So, only time can say whether the cyber warfare report compiled by Checkpoint is true or false.
