US Donald Trump takes claim of 2018 Cyber Attack on Russian Internet Research Agency IRA

In a much speculated interview given to Washington Post mid last week, the US President Donald Trump claimed that the 2018 Nation State Cyber Attack launched on the Russian Internet Research Agency (IRA) was done under his supervision and full knowledge.

And security experts fear that the public admission of the 45TH US President can put Russia in an advantage in Cyber sphere.

“Trump’s cyber attack claims could make the adversaries exploit, and engage in reverse engineering tactics leading to more pinpoint attacks to steal classical info or to disrupt critical infrastructure in US”, said Kevin Curran, the professor of Cybersecurity based at Ulster University.

Going by the record, the US Intelligence disclosed in 2019 that it engaged in a digital attack on an IRA troll farm of Russia that was alleged to be behind the influence of 2016 US Polls. Because of this attack, the IRA was forced to shut down its online services for few days.

US Officials said that after the Russiagate Conspiracy, investigations led them to facts that the IRA Troll farm spent nearly $46k on ads and $100k to spread fake news, eventually leading the polls to favor Trump.

But what surprises the world is admits Mr. Trump about the US Launched cyber attack in 2018 on IRA now. If Russia tried to influence the polls in favor of the US President, then what is the need for him to shut down the platform in 2018- after 18 months after the 2016 US elections?

Doesn’t it seem all confusing at this moment and perhaps time can throw some light on the facts in near future!
