All those who are using WhatsApp, you better be aware of this new cybersecurity threat related to WhatsApp. It’s said that a bug in the said messaging app allows hackers to infiltrate into their WhatsApp app and send messages and group chats to near and dear ones without your knowledge.
And if this flaw can be exploited further, can land you into deep trouble for spreading blasphemy content on the web.
Researchers from Israeli cybersecurity firm CheckPoint Research who unearthed the bug in the Facebook-owned messaging app say that the flaw could turn serious if left unattended and can prove fatal to the company’s existence in near future.
A team of researchers who investigated the issue from Checkpoint say that the vulnerability can help hackers intercept and manipulate messages sent to those in a group or private conversation as well as manipulate the sent ones by putting words/phrases which aren’t meant to be made public.
WhatsApp quote feature can also be used by hackers to swap the identity of the sender which could create a lot of understandings in a group.
The newly discovered cyber threat is so severe that cyber crooks can use others WhatsApp profiles to communicate with terrorist groups.
Note- WhatsApp has reacted to the alert from Checkpoint and said that it will come up with a fix soon. But at the same time clarified in its statement that the fix will take some time as some changes to the core part of the design framework of the app has to be made.
